Though summer has passed and the nights are drawing in, there is still a vibrant model boat club at Eastrop park that runs throughout the year, weather permitting. The club members meet at 9.00am on Sundays and 2.00pm on Wednesdays. If you come along you'll be amazed by some of the craftsmanship of the members. There are all types of boats, yachts, steam, scale, kits and more. Attend the pond at other times and you'll find kids, model yachtsman who don't want it so crowded and realise how lucky we are to have such a facility in our midst. Many modelers come from far away to enjoy the facilities. Bring the son and let mum and your daughter walk a few minutes into town and you can regain your boyhood.
Do kids only play on their computers or can we encourage them into model boating? I started modeling at a real young age and the skills last a lifetime. Don't be put off if you've never built a model, are worried that members only want to see amazing models or that you don't know where to start. My interest was rekindled earlier in the year when my father in law bought a model boat and, well, I've joined the club, built a model kit, dragged a 25 year old yacht from the loft, joined the club and even developed a website for the club. So, either get your children something really great for Christmas that isn't a computer, or just come along and find yourself a new hobby.
